"PARIS: fragments of urban reality"

November 2008, Chuck Scalin

Surface textures, architectural details and indigenous colors in the urban landscape provide the raw materials for Scalin's photographic explorations.

For some years his creative process has involved wandering through the streets, courtyards and passageways of Paris seeking out the unremarkable, the unnoticed, and even the undesirable in the form of scratches, markings and stains. These artifacts form the raw textures of his images which are captured in the frame of his camera and transfered into this series of large-scale abstract photographs.
It's quite likely that these exactingly scavenged details would not
have been noticed or been merely ignored by the casual passerby.
